The beaches of Nazaré and Salgado were once again distinguished with the prestigious “Gold Quality” Award, granted by Quercus – National Association for Nature Conservation. This award, which has been granted for almost 15 years, recognizes the exceptional quality of bathing water based on official public data collected by the Regional Hydrographic Administrations, exclusively highlighting locations that, over the last five years, have consistently received “excellent” ratings. This year, 425 bathing areas were recognised throughout the country, of which 363 were coastal, 48 were inland and 14 were transitional. At a time when there were sharp declines in some regions, such as the North (with 13 fewer awards), the municipality of Nazaré stands out for maintaining its rigour and high quality standards, seeing its two beaches recognised once again. This recognition represents the result of ongoing work in environmental management, water quality monitoring and public awareness. It is also another step towards sustainability and responsible tourism, made possible by the joint efforts of several entities, from municipal services to health authorities, concessionaires, lifeguards, as well as the civic behaviour of beach users. The local authority's services thus reaffirm their commitment to preserving the natural heritage and environmental enhancement, ensuring that Nazaré remains an excellent, safe and sustainable destination for everyone.
